Little Elm is one of Denton County's fastest-growing towns. Denton CAD's 2026 roll lists 21,733 single-family homes with a Little Elm address, at a median market value of $399,806. Half were built in 2013 or later. Newer subdivisions mean more first-year appraisals, more builder-priced comps and more chances for a value to land too high.
Little Elm's effective tax rate runs higher than most of Denton County, so an over-appraisal costs more here. Owners can protest each spring. The usual deadline is May 15 or 30 days after your notice, whichever is later.
TaxDrop's TDLR-licensed Texas consultants can handle the protest for you, from filing through the Appraisal Review Board hearing. See TaxDrop pricing for current plans.
Your Little Elm tax bill is several separate taxes added together. Each taxing unit sets its own 2025 rate per $100 of taxable value (Texas Comptroller, 2025 Tax Rates and Levies):
Watch for MUDs and PIDs. Parts of town sit in water districts such as Hwy 380 MMD 1 ($0.5332 in 2025), Denton County FWSD 8-A ($0.759) and Denton County MUD 8 ($1.00). The town also has public improvement districts, including Valencia, Lakeside Estates, Hillstone Pointe and Spiritas Ranch. These can add a lot to your bill. A protest lowers your value, which lowers every rate-based tax on it.
Homestead exemption: Texas school districts must exempt $140,000 of a homestead's value, plus another $60,000 for owners 65 or older or disabled (Texas Comptroller). On Little Elm ISD's rate, the $140,000 exemption cuts about $1,715 a year off the school portion. Homestead appraisal increases are capped at 10% a year, plus new improvements.
All of Little Elm is in Denton County, so Denton Central Appraisal District (Denton CAD) appraises your home.

For 2025, the Town of Little Elm rate is $0.5499 per $100. Adding Denton County and the school district gives a combined rate of about 1.76%β1.96% before MUDs, PIDs and exemptions (Texas Comptroller).
Monday, May 17, 2027, because May 15 falls on a Saturday, or 30 days after your appraisal notice was mailed, whichever is later.
All of Little Elm is in Denton County, so Denton Central Appraisal District (Denton CAD) appraises your home.
MUD taxes are charged on your appraised value, so a lower value lowers them too. PID assessments follow each district's own service plan, so check yours.
Filing a protest carries no penalty. Denton CAD or the ARB decides your value based on the evidence. In 2025, 94.2% of Denton County ARB determinations lowered value.
